Sumter Lighting and Home Has Deep Roots in the Sumter Community
Page Title: About Us

Sumter Lighting & Home has existed at our new location since September 8th, 2014 . . . but our roots go much deeper. This business was formed as a spin-off of Electrical Wholesalers back in the 1960’s and named Sumter Light House. Joe Sublette was the original owner and moved the business to Market Street in 1978. In 1986, Andy Dowling purchased the business and operated it for the next 20 years at the Market Street address. Stephen Arscott purchased the business in the Spring of 2006. In March 2014, he purchased the former McKenzie Paint & Decorating building. After an extensive renovation of the property at 135 W Wesmark Boulevard, Sumter Light House was reborn as Sumter Lighting & Home with a full line of residential lighting and home décor. We are so pleased to have over 100 years experience in lighting homes in the Sumter and surrounding communities.

Our owner, Stephen Arscott, was previously in the banking industry and served locally as a Branch Manager and Market President for Bank of America. Stephen is married to Melissa Arscott and they have three children. Melissa stays busy in her work as a Pediatrician at Sumter Pediatrics. They have lived in Sumter since 1998 and are proud to call it home. Stephen has been lighting homes since 2006 and loves the creativity that working in the lighting industry provides.

BJ Watts was destined to be a lighting consultant. As a small child, BJ grew up around Electrical Wholesalers where her father, Billy Riley, was the purchasing agent. BJ has been working for Sumter Lighting & Home since 1986. She is a Certified Lighting Consultant with the American Lighting Association. She enjoys reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Billy Tisdale serves as our Warehouse Manager. Billy’s families roots are deep in the Sumter Community as well as they operated Korn Industries for many years. Billy is a graduate of The Citadel. He enjoys running and flying model air planes in his spare time. Billy has worked at Sumter Lighting & Home since 2006.

We are also blessed to have many part time employees who contribute greatly to our success . . . none more valuable than Betty Foster. Betty is a legend in Sumter as she has been involved in the lighting and home décor business for the better part of 50 years. She is our lamp shade expert as she has re-shaded thousands of lamps over the years!! We are also blessed to have some of the best interior decorators in Sumter assisting customers . . . Jennifer Dwight, Hayes Jones, and Sue McDuffie all have artistic backgrounds which naturally lend them to their decorating talents.

Experience is key . . . and clearly Sumter Lighting & Home has it!!
